Knitting

Though knitted socks have been found from ancient Egypt, the use of two needles dates from the 11th century. In the latter form, knitting has flourished as a domestic craft, enabling the less well-off in society to make clothing for their families and also for sale. This supplement to The Queen magazine prints in prose form what it describes as ‘knitted comforts for the poor’.
