Cigarette cards

Series of pictorial cards covering a wide range of subject matter were produced by all the major cigarette manufacturers from the late 19th to mid 20th centuries. The cards fitted into cigarette packets, originally as stiffeners, but were soon produced with a growing band of collector in mind. These American cards  date from the late 19th century.
